George Brust Sr. brought dual engineering degrees from the University of Wisconsin to one of the most consequential industrial assignments of the Cold War era. As Manufacturing Design Supervisor at AC Spark Plug Division, he oversaw the production of gun sights and rocket sights — the critical targeting optics used by United States Air Force fighter pilots during the most dangerous decade of the 20th century.

Charles Stark Draper — the father of inertial navigation — designed the most brilliant guidance systems in history at MIT's Instrumentation Laboratory. But someone had to manufacture them to tolerances so precise they bordered on impossible for the era.

That critical translation from blueprint to hardware is exactly what George Brust Sr. and his team delivered. A Wisconsin-trained engineer with dual disciplines in mechanical and electrical systems was precisely the profile that demanding work required.

Draper's lab was the brain. Milwaukee was the hands. And George Brust Sr. was among those hands.

The engineering DNA developed at AC Spark Plug Milwaukee did not stop at the factory floor. It evolved directly into some of the most consequential aerospace achievements in human history.

1950s

Precision manufacturing groundwork laid in Milwaukee contributes to Titan ICBM guidance systems — America's nuclear deterrent backbone during the Cold War.

1960s

The same engineering teams directly inherit inertial guidance work to build Minuteman ICBM systems — cornerstone of America's land-based nuclear deterrent.

1969

Milwaukee's precision legacy evolves into AC Electronics. Guidance systems for the Apollo Moon Landing missions, including the Saturn V rocket, carry the work of men like George Brust Sr. Neil Armstrong lands on the Moon.
